South African actress Ama Qamata is making international waves.
The 22-year-old star has the leading role in the Netflix teen drama Blood and Water.
Now she’s been nominated for the Series Brasil Awards (#SBAwards) in the category Atriz Revelação Do Ano (Actress Revelation of the Year).
And she’s over the moon, sharing her excitement on Twitter saying this is a kwaai start to her festive.
Ama tweeted: “What a great way to start the festive season, my first international nomination! I’m honestly speechless, all I can say is thank you Brazil.”
She plays the leading role as Puleng Khumalo in Blood and Water, which is SA’s second original series after Queen Sono, with actress Pearl Thusi in the lead.
She’s up against nine other international contestants, including Iza Moreira, who stars in the thriller Kissing Game, and Grand Army’s Odley Jean, both on Netflix.

Confident of her success, Ama encouraged fellow Saffas to help her win.
“This one is coming home guys. Please vote for me y’all,” she wrote.
Blood and Water, with a storyline channelling the Zephany Nurse kidnap drama, is a hit in Brazil and Australia. Also popular among local viewers, the cast includes newbies, like Ama, as well veteran actors Thabang Molaba, Natasha Thahane and Sello Maake ka Ncube.
Should she win, this will not be her first gong as the actress palmed the Next Big Thing award at the SA Style Awards just last month.
She is currently filming the Mzansi Magic hit show Gomora.
