A Kenilworth ouma turned 100 years old and celebrated her milestone with a lavish, vaxxed-only garden party on Sunday.
Singer Salome sang at the party, after promising Agnes Bezuidenhoudt 15 years ago that she would sing at her 100th bash.
Agnes was born on 20 September 1921 in Kimberly, the youngest of seven children.
She married Wiliam Bezuidenhoudt in 1942 and the couple had five children.
Ma Aggie, as she is affectionately known, has 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Her youngest daughter Mercia Bezuidenhoudt tells the Daily Voice that her mom is an avid Salome Damons-Johansen fan.
“My mother loves Salome and we just had to get her to come sing fr Ma, it’s her all-time favourite,” says Mercia.
“My mother never smoked in all her life but enjoys a good red wine, sherry and Amarula.
“We had a party for the vaccinated family and friends and those who aren't vaccinated took part in the drive-by to wish Ma for her birthday.”
The centenarian worked at the Western Province Blood Transfusion Services for over 20 years and retired at 75.
Ma, who can still see, walk, hear and dance, loves eating all kinds of kos and salads.
“I eat anything I like and don’t focus on a specific diet. I am healthy and enjoy spending time with my family.
“My secret to a long life is doing a few stretches when I get out of bed, every morning,” the hupse old lady adds.
Ma Aggie swayed to the music as Salome sang a medley of songs at the party.
Salome says: “I met Ma over 15 years ago when Sidney Oliver of West End introduced me to her.
“Sidney said she is a huge fan of my music and she would come to the club just to see me perform.
“I was really honoured by this. I went to meet her and I promised her back then that I will sing at her 100th birthday one day and look, it actually happened.”
Ma Aggie was surrounded by her children aged 79, 68, 74, 70 and 65 and says she is also excited to vote in this year’s elections.
“I'm not staying home, oh no, I will be there to cast my vote to help make my country a better place for all, everyone should share this country.”
