Police were carrying out patrols in Viooltjie Street, Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain on Friday when they responded to a tip-off and searched one of the houses.
The 59-year-old man, who is a suspected member of the Fancy Boys gang, was searched and allegedly found in possession of 280 packets of tik, 114 halves Mandrax tablets and 16 full Mandrax tablets and 39 bankies of dagga.
Police say the drugs which were wrapped in newspaper, has an estimated street value of R20 000.
The man made his first appearance at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court yesterday on a charge of being in possession of drugs.
Mark Brooks, of the Lentegeur Community Policing Forum, says they are happy about the arrest: “We have a problem in ViooltjieStreet with drug dealing and operations have been done there and drug busts.
“We commend the police officials for their good work.
“We are always happy with interventions like this and police are doing a good job and as the community policing forum we commend them.”
