Mense listened in horror yesterday as a forensic pathologist explained in detail how Cape Flats teen Lekita Moore was murdered.
In the dock at the Western Cape High Court is accused killer Cameron Wilson, who faces 15 charges including six of murder, rape, attempted murder and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Lekita’s mutilated body was found on an open field in Tuna Road next to the 8ste Laan informal settlement in Valhalla Park in September 2016.
She was brutally stabbed and her face, breasts and vagina were slashed.
The court heard that Wilson and Lekita were a couple, that they had had a fight and that he had fetched her from a karaoke event before allegedly killing her.
He has denied all charges against him.
Yesterday forensic pathologist, Dr Bronwyn Inglis, who performed the post-mortem, said the 18-year-old meisie was stabbed 98 times.
“On arrival at the scene, the body was lying naked with the deceased’s legs wide open. The deceased sustained 98 stab wounds – 35 to the head and neck, seven to the upper chest, six to the abdomen, 15 to her back, seven to her arms and 15 stab wounds to her lower abdomen, groin and vagina,” she testified.
“The cause of death was multiple stab wounds.”
Dr Inglis said of the 98 stab wounds, 14 were done after Lekita was already dead.
She said stab wounds to Lekita’s pelvic bone were done with so much force that they penetrated her vaginal area.
Most of the stab wounds were fatal and both of Lekita’s lungs had collapsed.
A bloody knife found at the murder scene was introduced as Exhibit 2.
Dr Inglis was asked whether this knife could possibly have been the murder weapon. The doctor studied the knife and said, based on the measurement of the blade and handle, it was possibly the weapon used to kill Lekita.
Later the court heard from DNA analyst, Rebecca Francis-Pope, who testified that the black hooded jacket Wilson was allegedly wearing on the night Lekita was murdered had blood stains on.
“Blood stains were found on the jacket brought in as evidence and the stains were then cut out of the jacket to be analysed,” she said.
“Of the seven stains found, four of the stains belong to the deceased [Lekita] and the other to R.Lakay,” the court heard.
Rosita Lakay is one of the women Wilson allegedly stabbed hours before Lekita’s body was found.
