IDRIS Elba sent his fans gone mal after dropping nog ’n hint that he could be the next James Bond.
In a playful video posted on social media, the 53-year-old actor shared his visit to Madame Tussauds, where he delightedly interacted with wax figures of the legendary spies who have come before him.
With the iconic Bond theme playing in the background, the camera eventually focused on Elba, standing at the end of the line of former 007s - Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig.
It’s a tantalising suggestion that he might be next to don the famous tuxedo and take the secret agent code of 007.
Adding to the intrigue, Elba captioned the post, “Wifey made me do it..”, prompting a flurry of excitement from fans in the comments, who widely regarded him as the perfect successor to Daniel Craig.
Mense went bos.
One fan wrote: “The way we would show up to the theatres to see this would blow their minds!! Idris would be the best Bond ever!!!!”
Nog ene wrote: “He’s got the looks, the charm, the skills... Idris Elba is the ultimate Bond!”
Despite the hype surrounding his potential casting, the long-running Bond franchise has yet to officially announce who will take the reins after Daniel Craig’s celebrated tenure.
With Elba's films grossing over $9.8 billion globally, he is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood, landing him a well-deserved spot among the top 20 highest-grossing actors of all time.
However, Elba has recently hinted at another shift in his career, revealing his intentions to retire from acting and fully embrace directing in the near future.
At the Red Sea International Film Festival earlier this month, he expressed a desire to refine his craft and even explore further education to bolster his understanding of politics, feeling “like an imposter” in high-level discussions.
Despite these plans, Elba’s imminent projects keep him firmly in the limelight.
He is set to reprise his role as DCI John Luther in an upcoming sequel to the Netflix film “Luther: The Fallen Sun.”
As excitement builds for this sequel, questions loom about whether Elba will balance both his aspirations behind the camera while potentially stepping into the role of 007.
