COPS seized several illegal vuurwapens off the street at the weekend and nabbed the suspects carrying them.
In Browns Farm, Nyanga on Sunday morning, a 21-year-old male was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm in Ngulube Road as officers performed stop and searches in the area when members of the public informed them that they were robbed by three males armed with a firearm.
The suspect was stopped and searched and found to be in possession of a CZ 9mm firearm without a serial number, tucked away at his waist. He was unable to produce a license to be in possession of the firearm and was arrested and detained at Nyanga SAPS.
The firearm was handed in at Nyanga SAPS as an exhibit and for further ballistic testing.
In an unrelated matter on Sunday, Delft SAPS Crime Prevention Unit members chased down a suspect on Heathrow Street at The Hague.
A thorough search led to the discovery of a .38 Special Revolver without serial number, with four .38 Special rounds found in possession of the suspect.
The 21-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
Meanwhile, Kaapse cops have arrested a former South African Police Service captain, who had been on the run for more than two decades.
Cops swopped on the 54-year-old suspect, who was been on the wanted list since 2002 for multiple serious cases, including alleged rape, and sexual assault.
