Cops call on family of man who died at Wynberg Station

A man died after jumping in front of a train at Wynberg Station.

Wynberg police are investigating a tragic incident after a man died after jumping in front of an oncoming train at Wynberg railway station on Saturday, 29 November.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said the incident happened around 10.30am when a man, whose identity is still unknown, jumped in front of a train. “He was struck by the train and sustained critical injuries,” he said.

Captain Van Wyk said that medical services were called to the scene, and he was taken to a nearby hospital. “However, he died on the way to the hospital. 

Wynberg detectives are now seeking the assistance of the public to locate the family of the man.

The deceased is a unknown male believe to be in his early forties. At the time of the incident the male was wearing a grey top, red t-shirt, black jeans and white running shoes.

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) spokesperson, Zinobulali Mihi said the organisation was aware of the tragic incident currently under investigation.

She added: “No foul play is suspected based on preliminary information received by our security personnel at the station.

Ms Mihi said that PRASA shared its condolences with the family and those affected.
