THE body of an unidentified 26-year-old man riddled with gunshot wounds was found dumped along Lukannon Drive in the sand near Mnandi beach, Mitchells Plain.

It is reported that the deceased sustained a gunshot wound to his head and to his body.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said: “Mitchells Plain police registered a murder case for investigation following a shooting incident on Sunday morning, 25 January 2026, at about 11.45am, in Lukannon Drive, where an unknown male was shot and fatally wounded.

“Police members attended to the crime scene where they found the victim with gunshot wounds to his body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.

“The motive for the attack is yet to be determined. The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”

Public Relations Officer for the Mitchells Plain Community Police Forum Linda Jones said that the body was not buried under the sand but found along the road.

Jones said the area has become a hotspot for dumping dead bodies.

She told the Daily Voice: “The deceased is a 26-year-old male who had a gunshot wound to his head and to his body.

“That area on Lukannon Drive is a dumping ground, they kill people elsewhere then they come and dump the bodies there.

“We have had a few bodies at Mnandi beach which were dumped there. Cops even found people busy digging graves at Strandfontein Pavilion, so it has been years that things like this do happen.”

In a separate incident, Delft police are investigating a shooting on Kokerboom Street, where two adult males had been shot, one of whom was deceased, and said they have yet to determine the motive.

Twigg confirmed: “One adult male was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victim was taken to a medical facility for treatment. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined. The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”
