MORE gang violence erupted on the Cape Flats this weekend as an alleged skollie was found dood on a roof in Retreat.

A 19-year-old was reportedly shot dead as he tried to escape gunfire by climbing on a dak.

It is alleged that the deceased was a member of the Mongrels gang.

Twigg added: “Steenberg police registered a murder case for investigation after the body of a 19 year old man was found on the roof of a resident on Saturday, 24 May 2025 at about 21pm. 

“According to reports police members were called to the crime scene where they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his chest. 

“The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.”

Steenberg Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson Nicola Small told the Daily Voice that there is a lot of work that happened between the SAPS, CPF and other stakeholders to ensure safety for the community.

Small said: “Arrests made and guns taken off the street. So there are wins. It's not unmanageable in my opinion.

“As always, we want to just encourage the community to say something. If we want to make significant progress in the fight against crime we have to stop harbouring criminals, hiding the guns and drugs, and not speaking up."

In an unrelated incident, Ward Councillor Emre Uygun told the Daily Voice that a female victim was killed in Hanover Park on 23 May after intervening to protect her berk, an alleged member of the IGB gang.

Uygun said: “The intended target was the boyfriend, but unfortunately, she jumped in front of him and was fatally shot.”

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said: “Philippi police registered a murder case for investigation following a shooting incident on Friday morning, 23 May 2025 at about 10.40am in Silica Walk, Hanover Park, in which a 34-year-old female was fatally wounded. 

“Police members responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival on the scene they found the victim with a gunshot wound to her body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation.  

“We can confirm that a 21 year old male was arrested in connection with the murder and will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ court on Monday, 26 May 2025."

Twigg added that police officials and other law enforcement agencies are deployed in the Hanover Park area to conduct crime prevention operations in efforts to combat gang violence.

Twigg said: “They will remain in the affected area to restore calm and to maintain law and order.
