A TRIPLE moord rocked the streets of Lentegeur yesterday, claiming the life of an alleged gang member, his girlfriend and an e-hailing driver.

Tensions were high on the scene at the intersection of Merrydale Avenue and Highlands Drive which was cornered off after three people were shot.

According to reports, the Honda Amaze which was carrying the alleged American and his meisie came under attack by assailants in two cars, which had driven up alongside them.

A police officer who arrived at the scene was seen to be emotional and alleged to be related to one of the deceased.

Lentegeur Community Policing Forum (CPF) Michael Jacobs told the Daily Voice that he is aware of the gang issue in the community and especially between the Fancy Boys and American gangs.

While claiming that the e-hailing driver was an innocent victim, Jacobs said of the the man and the woman: “It’s alleged to be an American and his girlfriend.

“There was a killing on Friday in Lentegeur when a gang member was shot dead. So this seems to be revenge.

“There has been intense fighting between the Fancy Boys and the Americans and it has also spilled into the Beacon Valley area.

“There needs to be a thorough investigation and we want the issue to be resolved as soon as possible and that the perpetrators are brought to book.

“We call on policing agencies to act swiftly and also call on the community to assist SAPS with any information that is at their disposal, but to hand it over anonymously to protect themselves.”

Meanwhile, police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut said: “Anti-Gang Unit detectives are following up on all available leads in an effort to apprehend those responsible for a fatal shooting incident that occurred earlier today, claiming the lives of three individuals.

“Preliminary reports indicate that unknown suspects, travelling in two vehicles, opened fire on the occupants of an e-hailing Honda sedan at the intersection of Merrydale Avenue and Highlands Drive in Lentegeur at approximately 11.10am.

“The [male] e-hailing driver, whose age is yet to be confirmed, and two passengers, a 38-year-old male and a 36-year-old female, sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were declared deceased on the scene. The motive is believed to be gang-related.”
