Ottery shootout claims the life of alleged Mongrels dik ding as well as alleged No Fear gangster

THE alleged leader of the Mongrels gang was shot innie gesig and later died during a dramatic shootout in Ottery.

A firefight broke out between the Mongrels gang and the No Fear gang in a turf war during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Mongrel gangsters chased down a rival skollie Keanan America and then turned their guns on arriving City of Cape Town Law Enforcement officers. 

Alleged Mongrels dik ding Ameerodien Du Plooy was shot innie gesig. 

America succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a nearby hospital, while Du Plooy was also declared dead at a medical facility.

Grassy Park Community Policing Forum (CPF) Public Relations Officer Howard Downes told the Daily Voice that the incident occurred early hours of the morning on Saturday.

Downes says: At about 06:30 Mongrel gangsters came across the field behind the Civic Centre towards Eric Way and over the bridge in Edward Road. 

“They chased down and shot Keanan America in front of Rosedale court. He died at hospital. 

“The Mongrels gangsters then turned on Law Enforcement. Shots were exchanged. Ameerodien Du Plooy was shot in the face and later succumbed to his injuries.

“Another Mongrels gangster by the name of Frank was shot through the shoulder and a lady that lives on the field was shot in the hip.”

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said that cops from Grassy Park attended to the shooting incident at Ottery Flats.

Van Wyk explained: “Upon their arrival, they were informed that the victims had already been transported privately to two nearby medical facilities for treatment. The members went to the facilities and at the one hospital, officers found a 25-year-old male, deceased, and another male injured.

And at the other medical facility the members found a 34-year-old male, deceased and a female, injured.”

A case of murder and attempted murder have been registered, while suspects are yet to be arrested.

Meanwhile, in Bonteheuwel two known skollies aged 32 and 40 were shot and killed on Thursday evening at about 20:25 in Vlamboom Street.

According to ward councillor Angus McKenzie this incident is part of the ongoing rivalry between the Hard Livings and Dixie Boys gang.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said that Bishop Lavis detectives are pursuing leads in a bid to apprehend those responsible for the two murders.
