AN ALLEGED 27s gang member, who was apparently to be on his way to a memorial service, was shot and killed in Kuils River on Wednesday evening.
According to Daily Voice sources, 30-year-old Lorenzo Petersen from Eerste River was on his way to a memorial service when he was gunned down on the corner of Van Riebeeck Road and Annandale Street.
A video circulating on social media shows an unknown gunman chasing Petersen’s Mini Cooper and firing several shots into the driver’s side window and then into the windshield.
The suspect then runs to a getaway car that had been driving a few cars behind Petersen’s vehicle.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident and said that Kuils River police responded to the complaint at about 7.50pm.
Twigg reported: “Upon arrival on the scene they found a 30-year-old male inside a Mini Cooper who sustained gunshot wounds to his body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.
“According to reports the victim was approached by an unknown suspect who shot him while standing at a traffic intersection. The suspect fled the scene and is yet to be arrested. The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related.”
He added that cops are investigating a case of murder.
Kuils River ward councillor Wouter de Vos told the Daily Voice that he went to the shooting incident when he heard the news.
De Vos explained: “I went out there as I usually do just to see for myself what is going on. Upon my arrival I found that there had indeed been a shooting incident and that a male victim had succumbed to his wounds.
“He was declared deceased on the scene by Metro emergency medical services (EMS) and SAPS is handling the matter.
"A video of the incident has been widely circulated.
“It is quite clear that this was a very deliberate and intentional shooting.”
He appealed to the public should anyone have information to share it with cops so that the suspects can be brought to book.
