A WILD car chase through the streets of Cape Town had mense saying “this is the new Hollywood”.

After a suspect led cops on a dangerous high-speed ride through the southern suburbs before he was finally busted in Muizenberg on Monday.

The chaos went down on 7 July when Metro Police and SAPS officials spotted the suspect driving recklessly in Church Street, Wynberg.

But when they tried to stop him, he sped off like a movie scene.

A video of the dramatic chase quickly made its way around social media, showing the white VW Polo weaving through traffic, speeding through busy roads and even driving against oncoming traffic on the M5.

Muizenberg Community Policing Forum (CPF) Chairperson Michael Lategan told the Daily Voice that the ou gave cops a real runaround.

He says: “The chase proceeded through several areas, including Parkwood, Lavender Hill, and along Prince George Drive.

“In a further display of dangerous driving, the suspect also drove into oncoming traffic on the M5, posing a serious risk to other road users.

“During the incident, damage was sustained to Metro Police vehicles, a SAPS vehicle, and a waste delivery truck. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.”

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie said officers had to fire shots at the Polo’s tyres near Sunset Circle to force the man to a halt.

Pojie reports: “Muizenberg police registered cases related to Reckless and Negligent Driving, Possession of Drugs, Malicious Injury to Property and Resisting Arrest, following the arrest of a 43-year-old man by members of Metro Police after a high-speed chase across various neighbourhoods and roads.

"It is alleged that the suspect drove recklessly with his VW Polo when he was spotted in Church Street, Wynberg by the members on patrol who attempted to pull him over.

“Reinforcements were summoned and after a high-speed chase against the flow of traffic, the members finally pulled him over in Muizenberg where he was arrested.”

The man was taken to a medical facility for a head injury, before being jailed. He will appear in Wynberg Magistrates Court soon.
