A NYANGA ou appeared in court on Tuesday after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend due to his apparent jealousy of her co-parenting relationship with her baby daddy.

The victim, who asked not to be named, told the Daily Voice that she had been dating the guy for three months and told him after she finished her nightshift last Saturday that she had to sort some things out with her baby daddy.

She said the guy told her that she could sort it out in the morning and told her to come to his house after work.

“Apparently he drank because I saw a case of Savannah on the table and there were two bottles left,” the victim recalled.

“I asked him if he drank and he said yes, I thought it was fine but the facial expressions told me something else.

“I thought something happened to him at work or something maybe happened in his family. I did not even notice that he had a problem with me because when I spoke to him he was fine.

“I went to the bedroom and I undressed, but he kept making this sound like he was frustrated with something. I asked him if I did something to him or if I said something wrong.

“He questioned why I asked him and I told him because he was acting differently. Then he started to shout, swore at me, called me names, started accusing me of dating my baby daddy and asked what’s going on there.

“I told him that I was tired and told him I’d speak with him in the morning.

“He took my phone to ‘see the truth’. He started hitting and beating me. He looked through my phone and went through my chats and thought every person I sent a heart emoji to that they are my mans. But I told him that they are my girlfriends.

“He was going to hit me with a heater and I’m saying to myself now that it was a miracle from God. I don’t remember how I unplugged it but it just fell down.”

She said before they started seeing each other that she told him that she has a child and baby daddy who she co-parents with and at the time it seemed like he understood.

The victim further said that she suspects he is jealous because of this relationship that she has with her baby daddy.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said that a case of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) was registered at Nyanga police station.

“According to reports the incident happened on 12 July at about 3.10am at a premises in Waka Street, Old Crossroads, Nyanga,” reported Van Wyk.

“The complainant and her boyfriend had an argument, he was also under the influence. She stated that he hit her with fists in her face and tried to hit her with a heater, she fell and he then strangled her.”

Van Wyk added that the suspect was arrested and made his first court appearance on Tuesday.
