GUN violence continues to rock Mitchells Plain after two more people were shot and killed in what police believe to be gang related shootings on Monday.
Multiple gunshots have been reported in Beacon Valley and Lentegeur despite efforts to restore calm.
In Beacon Valley, cops reported a man was ambushed by a group in Metropolitan Street.
He was seated in his vehicle while fetching his children.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie said the motive for this attack is believed to be gang related.
Pojie explained: “Mitchells Plain SAPS registered a murder case for further investigation following a shooting in Metropolitan Street, Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain at about 14:40 on Monday, 4 August 2025 which claimed the life of an adult male.
“Preliminary reports suggest that the deceased received a call to fetch his children in Metropolitan Street and upon arrival in the street was ambushed by three unknown armed men and a female.
“The men opened fire at his vehicle and hit him multiple times in his upper body. The deceased succumbed to the injuries sustained and was declared deceased - on the scene by medical personnel.
“The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”
Earlier in the day at around 10.20am, the body of a 21-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds to his body near the railway line in Lentegeur.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said that Lentegeur detectives are investigating a murder case.
Twigg reports: “The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Monday morning, 04 August 2025, at about 10:20 near the railway lines, in Rooikrans Street, Lentegeur, where a 21 year old male was shot and fatally wounded are under investigation.
“Police members responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival on the scene they found the victim with gunshot wounds to his body.
“The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is believed to be gang related.
“The unknown suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”
In response to the shooting, Michael Jacobs, public relations officer for the Lentegeur Community Police Forum (CPF), urged residents to come forward with any relevant information to assist SAPS with their investigation.
He said: “I can confirm that a person died as a result of gunshot wounds next to the railway line in Lentegeur.
"Despite the deployment of various policing units within the precinct incidents of gun violence continue to persist and as a CPF we call on the community to assist SAPS with these investigations by providing relevant information that can linked these shooters to these incidents."
