THE driver of a minibus taxi died and two other passengers were transported to a medical facility for treatment after the taxi allegedly jumped a red robot and crashed into a Golden Arrow bus.

The accident took place on Sheffield Road in Philippi East on Monday morning.

And it is alleged by the Golden Arrow Bus Services that the taxi jumped the red robot and collided with the bus who was not carrying any passengers at the time.

Media liaison for the Golden Arrow Bus Services Bronwen Dyke-Beyer said that the bus had departed from the depot at the time of the accident.

Dyke-Beyer explained: “According to the information available to us, the driver of the third-party vehicle allegedly jumped the red robot causing the third party to collide with our bus. 

"We are deeply saddened to share that the driver of the third-party vehicle passed away at the scene. 

"Our bus had just departed from the depot and was not carrying any passengers at the time.”

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said that a culpable homicide case has been opened and is currently under investigation.

Twigg reports that Philippi East police registered a culpable homicide case for investigation following a fatal crash between a bus and a minibus taxi on Monday morning, 11 August 2025, in Sheffield Road, Philippi East. 

He said: "The driver of the minibus taxi was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while two passengers were taken to a medical facility for medical treatment. 

"The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.”
