Cops investigate case of murder

A MAN was found dood, folded up in a wheelie bin and dropped four metres down a manhole in Belhar.

City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said that members were alerted by community members at 3:30pm of a man stuck in a manhole on 23 August.

Carelse confirmed: “The incident was on the corner of Adam Tas and Stellenbosch Arterial, in Belhar Extension 13.

“The crew found that a body was folded in a wheelie bin and then dropped in the manhole – about four metres down.

“Several other agencies were on scene including the South African Police Service, Metro Rescue and our Technical Rescue staff.”

The body was retrieved at 8.30pm using a rope system, however when officials got his body out of the manhole he was declared deceased on the scene.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said police officials arrived at the scene at 3.45pm and confirmed that they are investigating a murder after a man believed to be in his 30s was discovered.

Van Wyk says: “According to reports SAPS members on duty responded to a complaint of a body found in a black municipal dustbin in a storm water drain at the mentioned address.

“A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.”

He added that Belhar police are investigating a case of murder.
