THE streets of Mitchells Plain were bleeding over the weekend with police reporting that no fewer than six people were killed.

Gun violence accounted for five of those deaths, including that of 18-year-old matriculant Abdul Muizz Diedericks and father of five Diego Soldaat, while another person was shot and injured.

Public relations officer for the Mitchells Plain Community Police Forum, Linda Jones, says genoeg is genoeg and has called for an end to the violence.

She told the Daily Voice: “We are calling now for an end to all these shootings. We appreciate the arrests SAPS have made, we are grateful for that but we are saying enough is enough.”

On Saturday, four people were shot and killed in various parts of Mitchells Plain.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed Mitchells Plain police registered two counts of murder following a shooting incident on Saturday night, 11 October 2025, at about 8pm in Grey Street, Tafelsig, in which two men aged 42 and 48 were killed.

Twigg said: “Police members responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival on the scene they found the victims who sustained gunshot wounds to their bodies."

"One victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victim was taken to a medical facility for treatment where he later died.

“According to reports, the victims were sitting on the pavement when they were approached by unknown suspects who shot them before fleeing the scene. The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related.”

Earlier, around 6pm, a 45-year-old man was shot and killed at the bus terminus in Mitchells Plain.

Twigg added: “According to reports the victim was approached by an unknown suspect who shot him and fled the scene in a silver Volkswagen Polo. The motive for the attack is gang-related. Mitchells Plain detectives are investigating a murder case.”

On Sunday afternoon, Mitchells Plain police registered an attempted murder case for investigation following a shooting incident in Austin Street, Beacon Valley, at about 12:30pm, in which a 28-year-old man was shot and wounded.

Twigg said: “Police members attended to the crime scene and upon arrival on the scene the victim was taken to a medical facility for treatment in a private vehicle.

“The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.”
