TRIBUTES are pouring in on social media for a tow truck driver and cricketer who was gunned down in Eerste River on Monday evening.
Nathan Plato, 35, was seated inside his tow truck when he was shot and killed after 6pm in Heather Park, Forest Drive, outside Time 2 Tow Spares.
A video has been making the rounds on social media showing the man’s body inside his white tow truck, with the driver’s window smashed from the gunshots. Police can be seen trying to keep the stunned public away from the scene.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed that a murder investigation is currently underway.
Swartbooi reported: “The circumstances surrounding the incident are now the subject of an investigation by the South African Police Service.
“Kleinvlei police rushed to a crime scene on Monday 13 October 2025. Upon arrival in Forest Drive in Heather Park at about 6.10pm, they found the body of a 35-year-old man who sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
“The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. The unknown suspect fled the scene and is yet to be arrested.
“Kleinvlei police are investigating a murder.”
Blue Downs Cricket Club took to their Facebook page to give their condolences in a heartfelt message with a picture stating: “Rest in peace Nathan Plato aka Spice.”
The message read: “Gone too soon but never forgotten. A cricketer with the heart of a champion and a smile that lit up every room. Your joy, your spirit and your love for the game will live on in every innings we play. Rest in eternal peace Nathan aka Spice.”
Nathan leaves behind five children and wife, Meagan.
When Daily Voice reached out to Meagan, we were informed by a family member that she is sleeping as she is emotionally exhausted and “not in a position to speak now as they have been up all night”.
