Triple murder in Hout Bay and one killed in Hanover Park

HOUT Bay police are on a manhunt after the murder of three men in Imizamo Yethu.

Three bodies with gunshot wounds were found in a silver Hyundai i20 at Holomisa Square on Tuesday night.

Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut said at approximately 11.45pm on Tuesday, 14 October, police were alerted to a crime scene.

Traut reported: “The South African Police Service in the Western Cape has launched an investigation following the discovery of three bodies in a vehicle in Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay, [Tuesday] night.

“The motive for the triple murder is yet to be established. However, extortion-related activity has not been ruled out... Detectives attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit are pursuing all leads in an effort to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.”

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General (Adv) Thembisile Patekile, has strongly condemned the senseless act of violence, describing it as a callous disregard for human life.

Patekile said: “The level of violence displayed in this incident is deeply concerning. We urge community members to work with us by providing any information that could assist in tracking down those behind this crime.”

Police are appealing to anyone with information regarding the incident, or who can assist in identifying the deceased, to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the My SAPS mobile application. All information will be treated confidentially.

In a separate incident, the body of an unidentified male believed to be in his twenties was found in Summit Road, Hanover Park.

According to Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk the motive is believed to be gang related.

Van Wyk said: “Philippi Police are investigating a murder following the discovery of the body of a male which was found in Summit Road Hanover Park with multiple gunshot wounds to his head.

“SAPS members attended to a complaint at the mentioned address on Tuesday evening... Upon arrival they found the body lying in the road. The victim was declared dead on the scene.”

Spokesperson for the Hanover Park Community Police Forum, Kashiefa Mohammed added: “According to residents, a quantum taxi threw the person out and shot him about five times in the face.”
