CLINTON Moses, better known as Duiwel, from Elsies River made his first appearance in Goodwood Magistrates Court yesterday in connection with the brutal stabbing and killing of the mother of his child on Sunday morning.
Mother-of-two Hermalise Wenn, 39, from Salberau was allegedly beaten and stabbed by the father of her three-year-old son, despite a protection order against him.
When Duiwel, 35, came out of the gat in court yesterday, he looked unfazed by what he was accused of doing.
Asked by the judge if he wants to represent himself, have a private representative or legal aid, he looked back into the public gallery to ask a woman believed to be a family member: “Het julle die lawyer gekry?”
The woman shook her head ‘no’, to which Duiwel responded: “Ek sal maar legal aid vat vir nou.”
The matter has been postponed till 28 October for bail information.
Outside the court, the victim’s hartseer niggie Lee-Ann Stander explained that Duiwel had a history of violence and controlling behaviour towards Wenn, despite her wanting to end the relationship.
She said that Wenn was at Duiwel’s house when the incident took place after “they had gotten back together two weeks ago”.
Stander told the Daily Voice: “They broke up and got back together two weeks ago. We don’t know why they made up, we don’t know if he maybe threatened her or threatened her with something but he did say previously that if she leaves him, gaan hy vir haar vrek maak.
“Hermalise’s son received a phone call that he should fetch his mother as Duiwel has been beating her since 3am the morning, however when the son got there Duiwel said his mother left.
“He went again with friends and saw Duiwel run upstairs and they followed him to the room to which he stood with the knife already in hand.
“Hermalise came out of the room and went to the toilet holding her chest and stomach while her head and leg were already bleeding.
“Duiwel started going mal and stabbed and wounded Hermalise’s son. He got a chainsaw and chased them out.
“They managed to get Malise out of the house and to the hospital, where the doctor said she was already brain dead and her heart already stopped.”
Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed that the circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.
Van Wyk reported: “Elsies River police registered a murder case following an assault and stabbing incident.
“The 39-year-old victim was taken to a nearby hospital by family members after being beaten and stabbed by her boyfriend. She later died due to injuries sustained. The motive is believed to be domestic violence.”
