Three people were shot in close proximity in Kensington on Tuesday night, with two of the victims left wounded and one man deceased.

The first incident saw a 29-year-old man taken to a medical facility after he was shot in the leg on the corner of Chapman and Ventura Street around 11pm.

Moments later just metres away from the first shooting, a 32-year-old sustained gunshot wounds to his body and was declared deceased on the scene, meanwhile ward councillor Cheslyn Steenberg said that a woman was also shot and wounded and taken to a medical facility.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that Kensington detectives are investigating a case of murder and two attempted murder cases.

Twigg reported: “The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Tuesday night, 21 October 2025, at about 11.17pm, on the corner of Chapman and Ventura Streets, Factreton, where a 29 year old male was shot and wounded are under investigation.

"Police members were called to the crime scene where they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim was taken to a medical facility for treatment. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined. An attempted murder case was registered for investigation.

In an unrelated shooting incident on the corner of Lugmag and Ventura Streets, this morning, Wednesday, 22 October 2025, at about 12.25am, police members attended to the crime scene where they found a 32 year old male who sustained gunshot wounds to his body.

"The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is yet to be established. The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”

Ward councillor Cheslyn Steenberg said that it is not confirmed whether the shooting was gang related or not.

He warned: “Under no circumstance will we allow this gang violence to escalate or come into a full gang war. Residents who entertain and support gang violence should consider their position because ultimately it is going to affect everyone wide. 

"I want to put out a warning to these gangs and say refrain from what you guys are doing. I want to appeal to Saps to really put proactive measures in place to ensure that this gang violence does not escalate. By large, I think the community must play a more active role in ensuring the gang violates is not escalating and not support these gangs in any way shape or form."
