CLINTON “Duiwel” Moses will remain behind bars after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend and the mother of his three-year-old child to death.

Moses, 35, made his second appearance at the Goodwood Magistrates Court on Tuesday in connection with the death of Hermalise Wenn, 39.

Wenn, a mother of two from Salberau in Elsies River, was allegedly beaten and stabbed to death by Moses on Sunday, 19 October, despite having a protection order against him.

She was rushed to the Elsies River Day Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The family of Wenn described Moses as jealous, abusive and controlling towards Wenn, who was a healthcare worker and tried to break off the relationship.

When she tried to do so, she was allegedly threatened by Moses who allegedly said: “Ek gaan jou vrek maak.”

Family and friends showed up to court wearing sweaters with the face of Hermalise, as the case was postponed to 9 December 2025.

Wenn’s cousin Lee-Ann Stander was not able to be at the court case as she had to identify her niggie’s body.

But said that she is happy that Moses will stay behind bars, explaining: “We are happy. Some of the family and community feels that he must come out [for revenge].

“Her father is OK for now as well as her sister and her eldest son but her baby boy is asking for his mom. The funeral is next Saturday.”

Moses is currently out on parole following a 10-year sentence involving the stabbing of a young man in the same community.

In attendance and supporting the family was the Callas Foundation, which runs a support group for women who seek assistance from domestic violence as well as substance abuse.

Lynette Dixon of the foundation said: “The Callas Foundation Human Rights Defenders attended court for the case involving the gruesome and horrific murder of Hermalise Wenn in Elsies River.

“Our representatives handed over a petition opposing bail and calling for the accused to remain in custody.

“The accused abandoned his bail application, as he is currently on parole for a pending criminal matter.

“This case highlights the severity of domestic violence and the urgent need for stronger protection for women and families facing abuse.

“The Callas Foundation welcomes the decision for the accused to remain in custody and remains committed to supporting victims and families affected by gender-based violence and femicide.

“Our team will be present at the next court date on 9 December 2025 to continue monitoring proceedings and standing in solidarity with the victim’s loved ones, especially her two minor children aged 16 and three years whom she loved dearly and cared for according to her family and community members.”
