It's about to get glittery and glamorous this weekend as the 15th annual Mr and Miss Sovereign Western Cape 2025 Pageant returns to crown a new king and queen.

It is all going down at the Joseph Stone Auditorium on Saturday with 16 finalists who are ready to take the stage and showcase their best in themed wear, swimwear and evening wear as they vie for these very prestigious titles.

The Sovereign pageant, previously known as Miss Gay Western Cape, is more than just entertainment, it also serves as a vehicle to educate communities to respect and show tolerance towards people from a diverse sexual orientation.

Taking the stage is Jody Lee Dryden, 29, a proud gay man from Brackenfell who says advocating for the LGBTQ+ community is about promoting equality, safety and dignity for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

He told the Daily Voice: “This is my third year entering this pageant and this year I will be coming out with a bang. Every identity deserves a spotlight. This pageant is not just about beauty, but about celebrating the diversity, courage, and brilliance of the LGBTQIA+ community. We are not here to be tolerated, we are here to be celebrated."

"This pageant is a declaration of pride, resilience, and beauty in being who we are."

“Sometimes I am mocked for just being me and not pretending to be someone I am not. At the end of the day my life is not being lived to impress anyone but myself."

Pageant director Barry Reid said the winners automatically become ambassadors and representatives of the LGBTIQA+ Community at large and will attend as many events as possible and advocate for love and acceptance as a whole.

"The audience can expect fierce competition and amazing garments, coupled with an evening full of entertainment."

This year entertainment will be by the likes of Idols SA and Maak My Famous star, Daylin Sass, Beaulah: Queens van die Kaap star Manila von Teez, with Naythan Kayser as the MC.

This show promises to deliver high voltage entertainment and great vibes so get your ticket now from Computicket for only R180.
