POLICE are investigating a murder after a man's body was discovered on railway line in Bonteheuwel on Monday, sending shock through the community.
Ward Councillor Angus McKenzie confirmed that the male is not connected to a gang or any local gang activity.
McKenzie said: “The motive behind the killing of an adult male on the Bonteheuwel train line, between Bonteheuwel and Netreg stations, remains unknown at this stage.
“The murder took place early on Monday morning. At this point, it is believed that the victim was not connected to any local gang activity.
“We are appealing to any member of our community who has information to please come forward. You may do so confidentially - either directly to SAPS or, if you do not wish to approach the police, you may contact me personally. What matters most is that the truth is shared.”
He further stated that silence helps no one, makes the community complicit and allows skelms to continue to walk the streets without consequence.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk reported: “On Monday, 24 November at about 3.15pm, SAPS members attended to a shooting incident close to the Bonteheuwel railway station, next to Bracken Street, Bonteheuwel.
“Upon their arrival, they found the body of a 41-year-old male with gunshot wounds to his back. He was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.”
The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and that a murder case has been registered.
