ALLEGED underworld figure Nafiz Modack was yesterday grilled in court over using 18 SIM cards on ONE phone.

But Modack hou’d dik that he didn’t use any of them to orchestrate the assassination of Lieutenant-Colonel Charl Kinnear.

Modack’s stash of SIM card numbers was in the spotlight during cross examination at the Western Cape High Court.

The ‘dik ding’ is alleged to have had 18 SIM cards from the same phone used in communication with co-accused Zane Kilian, who also faces charges of illegally intercepting cellphone information (pinging) using the illegal cellphone-locating LAD platform.

However, Modack denied that he was in communication with Kilian.

The State said they would argue that given that there had been a previous attempt on Kinnear’s life, it would be too risky for the assassin to hang around outside his home suggesting pinging was required.

However, Modack’s representative advocate Bash Sibda was gou op sy voete to object and stated that the shooter had already been outside Kinnear’s home for a few hours before the September 2020 shooting.

He further argued that the shooter could be seen on the CCTV footage houing Kinnear's house dop and therefore would not need pinging information. The CCTV footage, however, was not played in court in its entirety as Judge Robert Henney said that it was not relevant.

After court proceedings, shouts could be heard of “Sibda is the best lawyer and we vote for Sibda” and co-accused Toufeek “Bubbles” Brown cheered the defence laywer on saying “tel op Sibda.”
