THE South African Police Service (SAPS) slaan’d toe on Wallacedene early yesterday morning to arrest two mense in connection with drugs and ammunition. 

With the community dik of armed skelms robbing them om elke hoek en draai in the area, members of the police’s Anti-Economic Crime Task Team went on a klopjag to hunt down suspects. 

A statement released by SAPS yesterday read: “In the early hours of Tuesday, 29 July 2025, members of Anti -Economic Crime Task Team, Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team conducted an operation in Kraaifontein precinct to address crime, in particularly robberies with firearms and drug distribution. 

“A few addresses were identified and upon arrival at the first address in Nkrumah street, Wallacedene, Kraaifontein, a 26 year-old-man was found in possession of 205 mandrax tablets and 31 units of tik. The suspect was arrested.” 

They didn’t stop there, with the report adding: “Further leads took the members to another identified premises where they accosted a 30-year-old man whom they found in possession of an unlicensed firearm. His attempt to evade arrest was all in vain.

“The two suspects will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges.”

In a separate case, cops also slaan’d toe in Ocean View on Monday morning to catch three suspects. 

A statement released explained: “Members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team conducted an operation in Ocean View precinct to address the root causes of crime, in particular extortion.

“At the first address, a 37-year-old male was found and arrested for the illegal possession of a consignment of ammunition (674 units) used for different calibre firearms.

“Upon following more leads of another identified premises, a 36-year-old male was found in possession of 802 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R45 000.

“In an unrelated matter a 34-year-old male was arrested for the possession of 11 sachets of cocaine and an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime…

“All three suspects were subsequently detained at Ocean View SAPS and will make their respective court appearances in the Wynberg Magistrates’ court once charged.”
