A TODDLER was shot in the leg while sleeping in a wendy house in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain on Friday.
The father discovered that his son was wounded on his left leg after a bullet penetrated the wood.
The minor was taken to a medical facility for treatment and the suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.
Mitchells Plain Community Policing Forum (CPF) Chairperson Norman Jantjes told the Daily Voice that the father discovered that the child was shot when the laaitie started crying.
Jantjes explains: “Fortunately it wasn’t fatal. I cannot confirm who the shooters were or whether the father was the potential target, but it's an indication of the ongoing gun violence in Mitchells Plain.
“Despite the increased policing visibility and attention that Mitchells Plain is receiving - we do see officers from other police stations patrolling in Mitchells Plain - we still see the gun violence, but I think there is a slight reduction in the level of incidents.
“However, the shootings are ongoing. So what it says is that we haven’t been able to successfully quell the gun violence as there are still a lot of firearms in the area and we as the community need to be vigilant.”
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the shooting, saying “Mitchells Plain police registered an attempted murder case for investigation following a shooting incident in the early hours of Friday morning, 26 September 2025, in Tennis Street, Beacon Valley, in which a three year boy was wounded.
“According to reports the victim was sleeping in the Wendy house when gunshots went off outside.”
