SPRINGBOK captain Siya Kolisi is proud of the way the Proteas showed South African fight to down Australia in the World Test Championship final at the weekend.

Kolisi, getting ready for the national rugby team’s first match of the year against the Barbarians in Cape Town next week, said of the cricket team bringing home the Test Mace from Lord’s yesterday: “Their victory was huge.

“It’s great to see how whenever South Africa plays, the whole nation gets behind them.

“It was a superb team effort, we saw how Lungi [Ngidi] struggled in the first innings and then he came back in the second one.

“Kagiso [Rabada] was amazing and Aiden [Markram] knows he got zero in the first innings and fought his way through [to score a century in the second].

“That shows a lot of who we are as South Africans. “I’m proud of [captain] Temba [Bavuma] too, he went through a tough period because he couldn’t get runs.

“South African people are proud and very passionate about their country and he took it well. “He could have given up, but he carried on fighting. “He showed when his hamstring was sore and his career went the same way, he fought through it and did the best he could.

“And now he’s there, we are proud of them. “Hopefully this is the first of many more…”
