WESTERN Province backline coach Dewaldt Duvenage says the Kapenaars want to dish out some respek and dissipline when they tackle the Lions in their second Currie Cup Premier Division game of the season.

Province are smarting after a 48-23 opening round loss to the Bulls at Cape Town Stadium at the weekend.

And according to former Stormers scrumhalf Duvenage, min respek for when they had ball in hand cost them dearly in front of their home fans.

Not mincing his words, Duvenage said: “We can’t beat around the bush… In the first half we only had three opportunities with the ball in hand.

“So, the main thing was that we had a lack of discipline, and obviously our set-piece did not go as well as we wanted.”

Despite the loss that sees WP languishing in tweede laaste plek on the standings, Duvenage says there were some positive signs on the attack during the second half as the Kapenaars tried to play a quicker game.

But he knows, if they don’t sort out the problems at set-piece, another long day might await against the Lions who klapped the Sharks 46-5 at Ellis Park.

Duvenage wysed: “We have addressed the issues, [and] it is a big work-on for us, but we are looking forward to the Lions [game].

“In one sense, it might have been a good thing that everything that went wrong [against the Bulls] was put under a microscope.

“We are taking those learnings on board – rather now than later in the competition.”

With WP using a vrag youngsters and club players as well as a few Blitzbok recruits during the campaign, Duvenage reckons it will only be a matter of time when the team gel’s and starts to push for a spot in the Currie Cup semi-finals.
