THE Stormers are in no rush to pick their returning Springbok stars for their first game on tour in the United Rugby Championship (URC) against Scarlets on Friday, wysed defence coach Norman Laker.
After helping South Africa win back-to-back Rugby Championship titles, new Stormers scrumhalf Cobus Reinach, alongside Stormers ysters Damian Willemse and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu will join up with the team in Llanelli, Wales.
The Stormers will play three games away from home, starting with Scarlets on Friday, before a two-week visit to Italy, where they will face Zebre and Benetton respectively.
Although Willemse, Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Reinach are coming off a tough Rugby Championship, all three have said they want to contribute to the Kaapse span before heading back to the Bokke for the November European tour.
But of it being highly unlikely that they will play against Scarlets, Laker said: “They do give us different options [for Friday’s game] and maybe if there are some guys who are hurt, then there could be a swap around or we could stick with the same guys from the past two weekends.
“We just have to see how the guys, after a long flight to Wales, have recovered before we decide on who plays.
“I think they are still in London, but we will get them in Wales.”
To be ready for another challenging Friday night kick off, Laker revealed they decided to fly out to Wales on Monday after having their first training session of the week in Bellville.
He explained: “We will then have a Wednesday training session and our captain’s run on Thursday before we pay on Friday.”
Since debuting in the URC, the Stormers have never lost a game to Scarletts, home or away. But, Laker warned it will be dom to kyk the Welsh outfit vlak, and said: “Scarlets are not a bad team. At the beginning of last season, they rolled Leinster, and they ended the competition in the top eight.
“I have learned on tour that you can’t look too far ahead by worrying about game three when the first two are not done.”
