FORMER Liverpool midfielder and current Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano is confident that his team will bounce back from their goalless draw with Al Ahly in their first Club World Cup match last week.

The United States team, led by star man Lionel Messi, are seen as the host nation’s biggest hope in the tournament.

But after firing blanks against the Egyptian side, Mascherano said they will have more self-belief when they tackle Portugal’s Porto in their second Group A match at 9pm tonight.

With Palmeiras, who also played to a 0-0 draw with Porto in their opener, playing at 6pm, Mascherano knows how important it is for his team to get the big W tonight.

He said of their first match: “It’s a solid platform. We wanted to win, but the performance gives us belief.”

With the tournament being played in front of relative empty stadiums, Inter Miami enjoy more support in front of their home fans.

Mascherano added of the magnitude of playing in this tournament: “We’re surely facing the most important competition in the history of our club. It hasn’t been around for long, but this is the biggest tournament we’ve played.”

Can Argentina’s M (Mascherano) & M (Messi) inspire their team to victory?
