CASRIC Stars coach Joseph Mthombeni claims someone in the Cape Town City camp “insulted” his mother as the two teams played to a 1-1 draw in their PSL promotion/ relegation clash at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Thursday.

City conceded a 94th penalty which led to Stars’ equaliser, sending emotions over the top.

Following a skirmish at the final whistle, Mthombeni told SuperSport in his post-match interview: “They [the players] are all fighting, somebody insulted me in Portuguese. I know Portuguese, I know what you mean.

“You’re calling my mother. But it’s my legend. I love him, Roger [de Sa]. At least we can hug each other [afterwards].

“He mentioned [that in] '96 I was his No.1 supporter, I love him as well. Apology to Roger.

“That’s why people say I’m crazy because if you insult my mom - [who’s] laying in the cemetery - I have to act like I act, but apologise to Roger, it’s the emotion of the game.”

Mthombeni doubled up on his claim in an interview with SABC, saying: "What caused the drama is that somebody swore my mom in Portuguese. But Roger de Sa, I love you - you're a legend..."

De Sa told SABS of the gerollery: "Emotions run high, couple of handbags flying around a bit, it's part of the game really..."

Mthombeni’s Stars welcome Orbit College for their third-round match tomorrow at 3pm, while City’s next clash is away to Orbit College next Wednesday.

With everything to play for and all three teams on two points after two rounds, Mthombeni added: “The race is on now, the party is on now - we’ll see at the end what is going to happen.”
