THE final weekend of July saw East London mense treated to a thrilling conclusion to the final leg of the Engen Knockout Challenge at Dale College, as City Lads Ladies and Chippa United reclaimed their provincial crowns in style, securing their place at the prestigious Engen Champ of Champs in October.
Last Sunday, the Eastern Cape’s top youth spanne delivered jitz football that lived up to the tournament’s legacy as a launchpad for South Africa’s future stars.
In the girls’ division, City Lads Ladies edged out defending champions Nav Galaxy Ladies with a hard-fought 1-0 victory, reclaiming the title they had last held in 2023.The match was a tactical battle from start to finish, with City Lads’ discipline and determination proving to be the difference.
In the boys’ division, Chippa United sealed a confident 2-0 win over Red Lions, marking their return to the top after missing out last year.
The tournament embodied the spirit of the 2025 theme, “It’s Your Moment, Future Diski Legends”, as players stepped into their spotlight with pride and purpose.
With all provincial rounds now completed, all roads lead to the Engen Champ of Champs, where City Lads Ladies and Chippa United will proudly represent the Eastern Cape. The tournament will bring together the best youth teams from across South Africa to battle it out for national honours.
