A group of hair naturalists are putting their heads together to raise awareness and collect hair products for girls in need.
The Boskop Hair Product Drive is the brainchild of Candace Fielding, 32, from Mitchells Plain.
Candace, the owner of Boskop Republic, is a natural hair enthusiast and promoter.
She says the purpose is to collect hair products for girls and young women as a means to restore their pride and dignity, and help them heal.
The products will be distributed to underprivileged women and girls living in safe homes or orphanages on the Cape Flats.
“I started the project simply out of a need to give back,” says Candace.
“I play a big role in the natural hair community as a stylist and I always see how confident and happy women are when their hair is done.
“I also always have so many extra products lying around and I thought it only makes sense to give it to people who need them.
“Toiletries are expensive and pink tax is real.”
Candace roped in her friends - Help a Girl Help a Girl, Jengo Africa, Bush Baby Amy and Magical Messy Curls and Kroes Kontrol - to promote the drive.
“The initiative is a collaboration of organisations and influencers with the aim to empower and enable these young women to take pride and gain confidence in their appearance by promoting self-care both physically and mentally through hair and beauty.”
