It’s a double blessing for Cape Town singing star Nur Abrahams and his wife Tasneem.
The couple welcomed a beautiful set of twin babies on Tuesday at 8am.
The Strandfontein family have a daughter, 16-year-old Nihaal, and a son, Mish-al, who is 11.
Nur, who is currently working as a vocal coach on Season 2 of the TV show Maak My Famous, took the day off to take his wife to Constantiaberg MediClinic for a C-section operation.
Tasneem, who was due in March, was advised by her gynae to have a C-section to give birth to her girl and boy babies at 36 weeks into her pregnancy.
“Boy weighed 2.4kg and girl 2.06kg, the boy was born at 8.05am and the girl at 8.06am,” says Tasneem.
“We decided on a C-section because twins are usually considered high risk and it was quite a difficult pregnancy for me physically, so it felt like a better option than waiting.”
Tasneem, 36, says the twins are on a strict breastfeeding schedule.
“Feeding is going OK, their blood sugar levels are a bit low because of their weight, so we are sticking to a strict feeding schedule, other than that, they are pretty healthy.”
When the Daily Voice spoke to the couple in July last year, they had just found out about the pregnancy, but didn’t know it was twins.
At the time, Nur and Tasneem were preparing for one baby but got a surprise at 10 weeks.
Nur, 39, who wished for a boy, says: “I still feel the same, but now we have a boy and a girl and that evens out the estrogen/ testosterone levels in the house.”
He adds: “And yes, PJ, nappie, burping and every drill you can think of, I’ll be doing for a while just to give mom all the rest she can get.
“It was a tough pregnancy and I want her to catch up on all the sleep she has been missing out on.”
