The music world was shaken to its core with the news that legendary Black Sabbath frontman and rock star Ozzy Osbourne had passed away at the age of 76.
The hard rock icon passed away peacefully on Tuesday night surrounded by family, just weeks after his emotional final performance in Birmingham.
He is survived by his wife Sharon and their children, Jack, Kelly, Aimee, and stepson Louis.
His family confirmed the news in a heartfelt statement: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time,” they said, signing the statement with their names.
Ozzy was not only known for his wild rockstar antics but also his deep musical influence.
As the frontman of Black Sabbath and a solo artist, he delivered hits like Crazy Train, Changes, and Mr. Crowley, becoming one of the most recognisable and undoubtedly iconic figures in rock history.
Osbourne had been vocal about his battle with Parkinson’s disease and other serious health complications in recent years, including multiple back and neck surgeries.
Despite his declining health, he trained rigorously to prepare for his farewell concert, Back to the Beginning, on 5 July.
He performed seated on a black throne, unable to stand but determined to give fans a final goodbye.
While he was hailed for his massive influence on the hard rock music genre, he also gained mainstream popularity with his hit reality show The Osbournes, which ran from 2002 to 2005.
Tributes poured in online, with one fan posting: “RIP Ozzy Osbourne #Ozzy,” and another writing, “Rip Ozzy, condolences to the Osbornes.”
Musical legend Elton John said Ozzy was a 'huge trailblazer' who 'secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods'.
He posted on Instagram: “So sad to hear the news of Ozzy Osbourne passing away. He was a dear friend and a huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods - a true legend.
“He was also one of the funniest people I've ever met. I will miss him dearly. To Sharon and the family, I send my condolences and love. Elton xx.”
After sharing the stage at Villa Park in Birmingham, Ronnie Wood said he is 'very sad' to learn of Ozzy's death.
The Rolling Stone posted on X: “I am so very sad to hear of the death of Ozzy Osbourne. What a lovely goodbye concert he had at Back To The Beginning in Birmingham.”
