DETAILS of Cosby Show star Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s tragic death have emerged.

The 54-year-old actor drowned after being swept to sea by a rip current, but his eight-year-old daughter narrowly escaped her beloved dad’s fate, thanks to the quick actions of nearby surfers and lifeguards.

According to police, surfers leapt to action after spotting the late actor, best known for his role of Theo Huxtable in sitcom The Cosby Show, and his little girl “struggling” in the ocean after getting caught by a rip current.

After diving in to help, law enforcement told ABC News that one surfer ‘used his board to bring Warner’s daughter to safety and a volunteer lifeguard pulled Warner  and another surfer to shore.’

Warner, who died of asphyxia by submersion, was then given 45 minutes of CPR. Unfortunately, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.

Tragically, by the time Warner was brought to shore, he was found without vital signs. First responders from Costa Rica’s Red Cross attempted to revive him but their efforts were in vain.

The beach incident has also left a would-be rescuer in critical condition.

Reports confirm that a 35-year-old man entered the tumultuous waters in an attempt to save Warner and his daughter but suffered significant injuries in the process.

Officials from the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) indicated that this Good Samaritan had no prior connection to the actor, illustrating the selfless bravery of individuals willing to help in life-threatening situations.

As details of Warner’s untimely passing circulate, questions linger regarding the circumstances of the incident.

Eyewitness accounts highlight the fierce rip current that can unexpectedly sweep swimmers out to sea, a reminder of the dangers posed by nature's unpredictability.

The OIJ said Warner’s body will be transported back to Los Angeles (USA) by Friday.
