DEFENDING champions Ottoman Sporting Club were crowned with the Silver Fez, as they retained the Cape Malay Choir Board (CMCB) last Saturday.
The Athlone Stadium crowd was treated to a dazzling display of precision marching and drills.
There were a few teams in the running to win the Silver Fez, nicknamed “The Koefieyah”.
But outsiders, Young Men Sporting Club (YMSC) and Angeliere Sing Koor (SK) delivered outstanding performances as they gave the holders a run for their money.
YMSC won first prize in the Best Dress category, second prize in Drum Major, first prize in Grand March Past and third prize for their Exhibition Drill, and accumulated a total of 30 points for the day to finish second overall. body.
They also won the “small Koefieyah” for most points on-day.
Anthony Norman won first prize Drum Major for Angeliere, as his team won scooped third prize in the Grand March Past and had the crowd cheering with a gevaarlike second prize Exhibition Drill.

Meanwhile, the Western Province Marching Association (WPMA) Finals took place at Erica Park in Belhar last Saturday, bringing the province’s best young talent to the stage.
And for the fifth year running, Riverview Primary School from Worcester finished eerste in the Champions League, beating Red River Primary School by half a point.
Mitchells Plain High School (MPHS) won the high school’s section with Bonteheuwel High in second place.
MPHS coach Waheed Moses said: “This season tested us in ways we never expected, yet Mitchells Plain High proved what true character looks like.
“The performance at the WPMA Finals was a testament to unity, courage, and a refusal to give up. I’m unbelievably proud of this squad.”
The event ended on a great note, when City of Cape Town officials in attendance committed to increase the funding for the event and promised to host the next finals at Athlone Stadium in 2026.
