UK-BORN actor Kunal Nayyar, better known as Rajesh “Raj” Koothrappali, in the US sitcom Big Bang Theory is a modern-day night-time hero.

Nayyar, 44, recently revealed in an interview with iPaper in the UK that while almal anders are scrolling Facebook or whatever in bed, he goes through GoFundMe to see whose medical bills he can pay.

With an estimated net worth of $45 million (R720m), Nayyar is quoted as saying: “Money has given me greater freedom and the greatest gift is the ability to give back, to change people’s lives.

“We [he and his wife Neha Kapur] also support animal charities because we love dogs.

“But what I really love to do is go on GoFundMe at night and just pay random families’ medical bills. “That’s my masked vigilante thing! So, no, money doesn’t feel like a burden. It feels like a grace from the universe.”

Nayyar, played in Big Bang Theory from 2007 to 2019, believes elkeen should do their bit for society in order to make the world a better place.

He believes that even a simple gesture such as helping your neighbour out with some sugar can have an impact.

He added in the interview with the publication: “Right now people are not happy, because we are all expecting someone else to be kind.

“We are expecting a president or a politician, some leader, to come and bring us world peace.

“But there is no world peace if your neighbour comes to your door wanting some sugar for their tea, and you lock it against them and say ‘get away’...”

Nayyar did the interview with the publication in December about the movie Christmas Karma , in which he plays Eshan Sood.

The movie combines the traits of the Indian-origin British generation with local Christmas traditions.

Adapted from the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol, Nayyar reprises the character of the miser Scrooge in the book.

He fires his entire staff on Christmas Eve because they are having an unauthorised Christmas party and even refuses to pay for extra electricity at his house for warming during the harsh winter of Christmas in the UK.

As he prepares to spend the night alone, Sood is visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past and Future, played by renowned actors Boy George and Eva Longoria, who show him how his attitude is set to ruin the lives of many others and his own.

As in the book with Scrooge, Sood changes his attitude on Christmas Day, to the surprise of everyone who knows him, because of this.
