A young woman wants to use her platform as a beauty pageant finalist to shine a light on Gender-Based
Violence (GBV).
Amogelang Moagi, aka Amo, 25, is a finalist for the Miss Commonwealth 2019 South Africa pageant.
Amo, from Century City, says: “Gender-Based Violence is an issue close to my heart.
“The MCSA pageant is focusing on this topic as well and so I’m on par with the mission.”
Amo goes up against six other finalists for the title and she is the only contestant from Cape Town.
“I’m ready to represent Cape Town and bring home the title.”
The finale takes place on 26 October at The Birchwood Conference Hotel in Johannesburg.
Categories are Evening wear, National costume and Sportswear.
Amo says: “I’m very excited. It’s a great opportunity being a part of a pageant with purpose, this makes me beneficial to my community.”
She currently works as an Insights Executive for a marketing company in Cape Town.
“I’m a firm believer in teaching children the importance of morals and values in society and highlighting education as a key to substance for better futures for our children and ultimately building a better country.”
Amo is well on her way to becoming all she dreams of.
“I decided that we will do a fundraiser ‘Move Against GBV’ for a foundation called Zingce (Take Pride) which works with various charities in South Africa, one of them being Amanini- Acts of Kindness in Nyanga, to show that Gender-Based Violence should not be a part of our vocabulary in our City.”
