Grand Master DJ Ready D, B-Boy and MC Emile Jansen from Heal the Hood, and graffiti artist Falko were among 26 game changers to be inducted in the SA Hip Hop Museum’s Hennessy Wall of Fame on Friday at the launch of the museum.

The Hennessy Wall of Fame is the first phase of the Joburg-based museum, which is still under construction and will officially open next year.

The Hennessy Wall of Fame pays tribute to those who have laid the foundations for the SA hip hop industry.

Osmic Menoe, the founder of Ritual Media Group, the company behind the museum and the South African Hip Hop Awards, says he felt hip hop was running the risk of its story not being preserved and told by itself.

Ready D said he was honoured by the historic event: “I’m humbled by this acknowledgement and grateful for all the people that I’ve worked with and encountered on this journey.

“These awards are reflections of many struggles and celebrations.

“This is a great platform to celebrate and educate people about our rich South African Hip Hop Culture.

“I salute all the inductees and those that will make it into the #SouthAfricanHipHopMuseum in the future.”

Khomotso Ledwaba, the brand manager of Hennessy SA, said: “Our brand has become synonymous with hip hop culture around the world.

“Ever since first being uttered on a verse, Hennessy has featured in some 2500 songs and has made an indelible mark on the genre. Our Wall of Fame is another way to champion the creatives making waves in the industry.”
