Social media went bos on Tuesday over news about the return of disgraced Expresso Morning Show presenter Katlego Maboe to the popular SABC3 programme.
A Facebook post on the “Home of Celebs” page shook fans and followers of the saga, stating: “Katlego Maboe got a second chance. Yes, Kat is back on Expresso. After a massive fight and petitions to bring him back with GBV allegations, Mr. Maboe can breathe a sigh of relief as Expresso morning show renewed his contract.”
The admin of the page also posted in the comment section, paying tribute to the woman who created a petition to bring Katlego back to the show, saying: “Guys, we need to be grateful to the woman who created the ‘Bring Back Katlego Maboe’ petition which received a whopping 73 600 signatures.”
The change.org petition was launched by Lindy KaMahlobo in October just days after cheating and abuse allegations were levelled against Maboe by his estranged girlfriend Monique Muller.
In a video leaked on social media, Monique claimed Kat, who admitted jolling on her, gave her a sexually transmitted disease which could affect her chances of having another baby.
The former couple, who have a child together, have been to court after the TV personality allegedly broke a protection order.
Expresso has suspended Kat pending the criminal investigation into his alleged abuse while Outsurance has replaced him with Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp in their TV adverts.
The Facebook post was flooded with messages from fans who rejoiced at Kat’s supposed return.
Jabu Hlophe wrote: “I hope the Outsurance will do the same, their ads are so boring without Kat.”
While Mopa Bulane said: “Good for you brother. I was no longer watching the show because you left. God is great. They can never take your talent.”
The Daily Voice contacted the Home of Celebs page admin, but they did not respond by time of publish.
Neither the Expresso show’s producers, nor the SABC would confirm on Tuesday whether Katlego has been reinstated.
According to a source at Expresso, they miss Kat: “We would like Kat to come back to the show, as soon as the court case is over, we will talk about him coming back to the show. He was never fired, he asked for time off to deal with this personally.”
Meanwhile Marc Isaacs, the founder of the Cape Town-based group, We Support Katlego, says he too has heard the rumours of Kat’s return to Expresso.
“We have heard along the pipelines that Kat will be returning soon, but we have not received any confirmation thereof,” he says.
