Cape Flats jazz and gospel star Jonathan Rubain’s wife has left him.
Jonathan took to Facebook this week to break the news to fans, saying he wanted to clear the air and stop rumours from flying about his personal life.
Rubain and Cherish have been married for 10 years and have three children.
The divorce comes as a shock to fans as the couple renewed their wedding vows during a lavish ceremony at the Cape Town Stadium in May.
In a lengthy post, the bass guitarist said the “painful” decision to divorce comes after numerous attempts to save their rocky marriage.
“It is very unfortunate I have to tell the world today that we are going through a divorce. I have been at this place so many times but never had it in me to follow through because divorce was something I did not believe in.
“I can also assure you that there were no “third party” involved on neither side. I got a lot of courage from Cherish when she asked me in July that she wants a divorce.
“She wanted her own identity and her own career. We decided to work it out but unfortunately, it didn’t.”
Jonathan on Thursday told the Daily Voice: “I don’t want to comment on the post but I will say that it’s better to put it out there than have people see me with a new woman over a year or more and then question what I’m doing.”
