PROUD: Dad Ayanda and uncle Mandla showing support for singer Yanga
Yanga received the most votes on Sunday, making her a clear frontrunner to follow in the footsteps of last year’s Idol, Paxton Fielies, 18, from Bishop Lavis.
The Daily Voice visited Yanga’s Delft home on Monday to speak to her proud dad Ayanda.
The 51-year-old says his talented daughter is the “humble middle child” in their home but he always knew she would achieve great things.
“Yanga is very accommodating to everyone and loves children,” he says.
“Every time we came from church, she would still continue singing in her room. Her mom would sometimes joke and tell her to stop being noisy but I know how much she loves her God-given talent.”
Her uncle Mandla Budu, 40, adds: “Yanga really caught us off guard with her achievement on Idols. Look at us now talking to the media, we didn’t expect this.
Delft residents celebrate after Yanga made it through to the final two.
“We are filling the Voorbrug Stadium this Sunday with fans to watch the finale on a big screen, everybody is welcome to bring their camp chairs and food to join for the winning moment.”
