It’s going to be heartbreak at HeartFM on Friday as the station bids farewell to one of their most-loved radio jocks.
Irma G will be signing off one from her 9-12 morning show one last time with a heavy heart, but says her heart will go on.
“My contract with HeartFM comes to an end at the end of February,” she says
“I have chosen to not accept the offer Heart extended to me. This by no means means I do not absolutely love the medium that is radio.
“In my 23 years in this industry and the past nine years at HeartFM, I have learned the listeners are who is boss.
“I am forever grateful for the kind words, a loud pitch squeal and blessings upon not just my life but my family too.
“Thank you once again to people who have opened up their homes for me to come to be silly in.
“You have no idea how much I have appreciated reading every message on all platforms.
“Thank you for educating me on bruin rokkies, the jazz spots from back in the day, how to make boeber from scratch.”
The Mitchells Plain celeb says she there are no plans in the pipeline “just yet”.
“I am not going anywhere just yet, but trust me it’s farewell and not goodbye. I am still very motivated by people and their stories so I look forward to a future that includes all this.”
HeartFM’s Vernon Nel said: “Irma has been a valuable part of the Heart FM team for many years and has had many memorable moments both on and off-air. She leaves a deep footprint in the hearts and lives of listeners and colleagues at the station”.
Suga will move to Irma’s 9-12 slot, to make way for Ryan O’Connor, who takes over the drive show.
