From the stage to your TV, local jazz sensation Jonathan Rubain is getting his very own talk show.
The well-known Hanover Park musician is ready to take South Africans to heavenly heights on kykNET&Kie’s new gospel music and talk show, Koortjies met Jonathan Rubain.
The programme will focus on the role of belief, music, spirituality and matters of the heart.
The 34-year-old dad of three says he is still in shock after the opportunity arose last year.
“Exactly a year ago, I got a call from Kyle Shepherd to ask if I would like to have my own show on kykNET. I had a meeting with Homebrew the same day,” says the bass guitarist.
“It was a waiting game until July when we had to do the pilot and they loved it.
“In December, Homebrew said it was confirmed and things started rolling from there.”
Jonathan says he is very excited and being on TV is a dream come true.
“As a child, I wanted to be on YO.tv or KTV, jinne I was practising all my life. I’m excited for this new season in my life.
“I always wanted to get the gospel spread on TV. I believe that’s where we as people of colour need to be.”
He says different guests will be interviewed on the show, from local celebrities to pastors and role models in the community, and some gospel music thrown in for good measure.
Jonathan promises to bring his A-game to your Sunday night praise and worship session.
He says: “ Koortjies met Jonathan Rubain will explore how your faith carries you through difficult times, how to be a better human being for your neighbour, and we’ll end off the evening by chatting to your favourite local celebrities.”
Jonathan calls himself a “Pinkster boy” and the artist is known for his sold-out shows across the country.
Last year August saw him deliver a sold-out concert - the first time a South African gospel act has managed to do so - at the Grand Arena.
Koortjies with Jonathan Rubain hits your screens from 5 April at 6pm on DStv channel 145.
