FUNDIS: Angelique Johannes and Steven Carolus

Two youngsters from Mitchells Plain are determined to make a difference in the lives of young people through fashion and are calling on the public to help them make it happen.

They will be hosting a fashion show in March to give local designers the chance to showcase their talent, and secure work and business opportunities in the fashion industry.

Steven Carolus and Angelique Johannes, who both grew up in Rocklands, are the brains behind the initiative and hope to put local fashion on the map.

According to them, they developed a love for fashion over the years and their love for the art inspired them to create solutions in the local community to help the youth realise their dreams through their creative talent.

The duo say they have collaborated with high schools in the area, as well as people from the community, to train individuals to walk the runway and other basic techniques for aspiring models.

The pair, both visual merchandisers, say the idea for a Mitchells Plain Fashion Show came after they attended a similar showcase in Khayelitsha.

“The Khayelitsha fashion show really inspired me to create something like that in my own community.

“I love fashion, and for me helping designers to showcase their craft and creative side really makes me happy, and giving an aspiring model the opportunity to walk on a runway makes me feel very proud,” said Steven.

They’re calling on businesses and the public to aid them in theirr missin to bring hope to the young people of Mitchells Plain by email at [email protected] or on social media Mitchells Plain Fashion Show.
