Popular Cape Town entertainer, DJ Willy, is the latest celeb to lose a parent to Covid-19.
The DJ, real name Wilfred Hendricks, 40, was named after his father, who passed away at the age of 76 at Tygerberg Hospital on Saturday night.
“I’m devastated that my dad has died, especially due to Covid because it prevented us as a family from being there at his side during his last few days,” says Willy.
“We didn’t even get the chance to really say goodbye to him and tell him how much we were praying for him while he was in hospital.
“He did his best to avoid getting Covid yes, and he hardly went out.
“He socially distanced as much as possible from everyone and always wore a mask when speaking to people.”
Can’t believe it 😢😢😢. Rest in Peace Dad. While we will miss you so so much, you are reuniting with Mom again. And...

Willy says his dad lived in Belhar with his three siblings.
“Around 15 December, most of them in the house got a tummy bug which progressed to some flu-ish symptoms, which is why they went to get tested,” he says.
He says his dad was hospitalised last Monday because his oxygen levels were low.
“My siblings are not sure who got the virus first or from who he might have contracted it.”
In another Covid-related death, Blackheath drummer Stanley Jantjies, 32, also passed away on Sunday night in Tygerberg Hospital.
His brother-in-law Virgil says he tested positive for Covid on 24 December and after having difficulty breathing, he was rushed to hospital on 30 December.
“His condition improved on Sunday but he had a setback after 11pm and sadly passed away.”
Stanley started playing drums in the Green Pastures Ministries church in Manenberg at the age of 10.
Stanley’s wife Leigh-Anne has also tested positive for Covid.
