MAN WITH A PLAN: Kenwyn Davids
Before lockdown killed our fun, Premium Sports Bar in Mitchells Plain was a hotspot for stand-up shows, hosting comedians from all over South Africa every second Tuesday night.
Hosted by Kenwyn Davids, the place used to be propvol as nobody wanted to miss out.
Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdown brought an end to it but now, nearly a year later, Premium is back with its comedy shows.
From Saturday, 27 February, at 7pm, they will be hosting a controlled number of patrons at the club while the rest of us can enjoy the show online.
Premium comedy, Kenwyn’s brainchild, has been around for eight years.
The first show will boast an all-star line-up of Yaaseen Barnes, Conrad Koch with Chester Missing, and Carl Weber.
“We understand that the virus is still out there, so we want everyone to be safe,” says Kenwyn.
“We will be having strict Covid-19 protocols in place to keep you safe.
“We encourage everyone to support online, as you'll see that your experience will be as good as the physical one.
“Limiting in-house the way we are doing now, is not only being socially responsible, but also putting the patrons and their families’ health and safety first.
“We've found a way to make sure that everyone in-house and at home are able to have a great time.”
He says they have great plans for their comedy nights, as the show is well put together and the entertainment is of world-class quality.
“We want to package a product for TV, so that in the near future, Premium won't just be in Westridge, but national.
“We can only do this with support from our direct communities, and also those online, which includes expats that miss the SA comedy style so much.”
Online tickets are R70 at Quicket and in-house audience tickets cost R150, which include a meal.
